What Was Your First Computer You Ever Owned

Make and Model? Mine was a Commodore Vic20. Who would have ever thought back then, we have what we have now.

it was DEL 540 hard drive, 16Mb RAM [human_spider]
Wow... That was a small computer for memory. Sounds better than a 486 I remember owning though. [KrauseHome]

Mine was a mutt!lol My husband purchased a desktop computer for me from a pawn shop. I believe the monitor was a Daewoo, and the tower case had something on it that started with a "Q". Everything inside of the tower was of various brands. No matter, I loved her anyway :) I stayed on that thing for days at a time. Within the first month I had earned back the $300 my husband had spent on it by printing photos and creating unique cards and invitations. I used that computer for five years, and had a very nice extra income going. When I got a faster one, I kept the tower (although I had gutted it)for sentimental reasons. I cried last month when I threw it away. Bye Bye baby.........yea, I loved that machine. [TAMMY77541]
Well, I owned a 486 once for a short while. I only paid $50 for it, and then sold it about 9 months later or so when I bought a Newer one. I got $100 for it when I sold it, so I actually profited from it. [KrauseHome]

My first computer was an Apple IIe. I basically just used it for games back then, but my father used the word processing program and printer for his work. It had dual 5 1/4" floppy drives and no internal storage. Woo hoo! [ChewySpree]
Well, I remember my Mom's first Computer, Funny thing is what she paid for it back then, you could get top of the line now almost. Hard to believe how times have changed. [KrauseHome]

Mine is a HP that's all I know. I have had it about 5 yrs. [kkssbbmm123]
Wow... Having the same Computer for 5 yrs? Have you done any changes to it? Does it have XP on it or what? [KrauseHome]

I don't remember the brand name of my first computer, but it was an 8086 with 8 mg RAM. It came right before the 286. It ran on DOS, because it wasn't even big enough to hold WINDOWS 3.1. The first time I saw the Windows OS I was amazed. I also remember someone telling me their HD was a full Gig, and at the time I said, "I can't imagine needing that much space...lol..I think my HD now is like 80GB and it's not enough! As a humorous aside: When my husband and I were dating, he thought I was SO smart because I knew was C:\CD meant! LOL [sndcain]
Well, I just added a 400 hard drive with my 150 that came with my Computer, so I have plenty of space now. I remember when I used to think I would never fill up a small hard drive as well. But I remember Dos, and how hard it was. I will always prefer Windows now. Makes it hard to even remember the other stuff ever existed now. [KrauseHome]

Yes, it is hard to beleive when you really think back to it, how much Computers have changed. And I know what you mean by filling up space. I have filled my 150 gb HD twice already, and had to move stuff. Now there is like 750 gb hard drives you can get. [KrauseHome]

it was some years back running windows 98. [blueman]
Well, one of the first Computers I bought as an Adult had Windows 98 on it too.. But I still remember the Commodore Vic 20 my family owned that was the First Computer I ever had. [KrauseHome]

It was an HP desktop, but as far as the model goes I don't recall. It has been a very long time ago. [happygal68]

I have my very first computer in 2001, it is a Dell Dimension L866r desktop. I bought a second computer in August, this year, also from Dell, this a DELL Inspiron 640m laptop which I bought during a PC fair. It is a very bargain buy with added features if compare with a normal purchase for the same model. [asimo603]

We had a Commodore, too. My dad insisted that we get one for our kids. They had a few games on it, but they never liked it very well. When Dad bought a new Apple, he gave us the old one. Again we had a few games, but I was able to keep the books for my husband's small business on it. Unfortunately it crashed totally a couple of years later and took all of our records with it. When he passed away in 1986 Mother gave us his newer Apple. It worked okay until we bought our new Gateway in 1995. We had another Gateway after that, and now we're on our 2nd Dell. I wish they could develop computers that could be upgraded more and which would last longer. Although the price of computers has come down, it's still expensive to have to buy a new one every few years. But I couldn't live without mine now, could you? [sbeauty]

A huge machintosh like that now would be considered prehistoric.. even though it was the best of it's class when i bought it... [warhammerwarrior20]

Well, my first computer was compaq 5000 seriers copmputer and i still owe it. Thanks. [findcutegj]

My first computer was an Apple IIc! It was white, so little, like a laptop, only the monitor was green. It had 64k memory, and used 51/2' disks. A word processor software would use 30k and the rest was to write whatever. I remember that those disks you could cut a little part and use them on the other side. Well some of them... It was fun and that's how i got so into computers! [berlinlife]
I forgot to say, the year I bought my first computer was 1985... probably many of you were not even born yet! [berlinlife]

The first computer I haver touched was the ZX Spectrum 128K! My parents bought it when I was a little boy. And the first game I played was Rambo! oooh... how I miss those days! [chanfrado]

Oh my goodness, you're bringing back memories! *laugh* I can't remember which came first - the Commodore 64 or the Vic 20 - but my family had both, at one time or another. We also had an Atari 2600. I can't believe that I still remember the model number! I thought that I couldn't recall it until my fingers started to type, it's been so long! ^_^ Wow. Back in those days, the internet wasn't even a dream in my mind! Now, I don't know how I would live without it! But my father is very technologically minded (he used to fix tv's and other electronics for a living) and that's why I've been around technology and computers basically all of my life! ^_^ [shywolf]

I can't remember what it was, but it had the 2 floppy drives. One was the old 4x6 floppies. It also didn't have an internet connection. [mcmomss]

I owned IBM PCG in 1987 purchased from Singapore. Its Floppy drive was big i.e. like today's desktop cassing. Monitor was 12 inch monocrhome. Speed was 2-4MHz, Ram was 64MB, Hard Disk was 20MB, operating system was DOS version 2.3 and software was WordStar4, dBASEIII+, Lotus 1-2-3, SuperCalc, SPSS PC Plus, Clipper, Games was Super Mario, Nintendo, etc. Printer was Epson Dot Matrix. Floppy dist size was 5.25 inch and I still kept 20 nos. with me. I will tell my sons/daughter to keep it and to sell after 50 years when this will be an attractive antique (though I have no grandchildren at present)...lol [edigital]
