Yesterday we were having a bit of trouble with our main computer. Jason was having more trouble then I did all day in the evening. So he just shut it off and said forget it.
I went to turn it on this morning and it made this really loud sound out of the speakers and so I turned it off really quickly. I tried to turn it back on and nothing happened.
I am really hoping its something besides the hard drive. If its the hard drive I am going to be really upset. I would lose all my photos since this summer that I hadn't gotten to burning to a CD yet. Please let it not be the hard drive.

I have no idea but if no one answers you, I know of a website that is very helpful with computer problems. Thats where I go just before I throw the thing out the window.lol. The website is www.pcpitstop.com [brendalee]
Jason will be able to figure out what is wrong when he gets home and gets a chance to really look at it. I should just be unlazy and make sure to burn them to CD as soon as I transfer the photos from the memory card. [Penguinsangel]
When you turend it on did you get the confirmation beep? If not you may have a big issue on your hands. I hope you have a good back-up recently because at work we just had a computer die and even though the back ups were running they were all corrupt. We have been rebuilding a database from scratch, fun fun. My fiance has a brand new computer (less than 2 months old) and he installed the newest update for Windows XP Saturday. When he restarted it tried booting up from the CD, then his USB Flash drive, then the router. It eventually booted correctly. We left the house for a few hours, we come back and there is a windows error stating that it shut down because of an operating system error. He turned off the computer and when he rebooted, he got power (all the lights and fans are running) but no confirmation beep. He is hoping that it is just the hard drive. Either way I am avoiding any Windows XP updates JIC. [sedel1027]
We have 2 other computers as well. My fiance is a computer tech. We are more concered because his PC is brand new and this should not be happening. [sedel1027]
I was having some problems with my computer when I came home this evening after my antivirus program updated itself. I was having a hard drive message as well but when I restarted my computer it seems to be working fine but not sure for how long. Hope both of our computers will continue working. [kgwat70]
ick! I hate computer issues. They just need to go away lol [Penguinsangel]
It does'nt sound like the hard drive would be damaged. It may just need a new motor.Sometimes if the motor goes out it will make a noise because it's overheating. [Tweety2035]
That is exactly what jason thought it was last night. Cause we had one of our fans completely go out. And he is thinking that just something in that field went completely bad. hoping that is all. [Penguinsangel]
I hope you're okay by now. It seems a technical problem or is it? Maybe a virus/spyware that leads to a technical issues like that. I'm not sure because I won't be able to figure it out personally. Well, I hope it'll be fix soon. [gotcho0O]
If the sounds are series of long beeps you have a problem with your DIMM/Memory RAM cards. If you know how to troubleshoot just remove these cards and reinsert them again on their respective slots. If not its possible that your DIMM cards are damaged and needs to be replaced. [cnetboss]
I had a similar problem and my son who is a computer technician took the computer apart to see if he could find the fault. Everything seemed in except for me dvd burner. It seemed to have move a bit. He took it out and replaced it again and I haven't had a problem since. Touch wood! [Alexandria37]
i think there is no problem with hard drive.. the best thing you should do to retrieve ur file is to insert ur hard drive to other cpu and try to boot it.. or if you have an external cable for harddrives then use it to check out if your hardrive is working properly. [jthan4friends]

Sorry, I don't know how I posted this twice. I am not in the habit of repeating myself. I must have hit the back button and posted it again. [Alexandria37]
What kind of computer do you have is my first question? Do you have another slot for another hard drive? If you have another slot for another hard drive...here is what you can do. The hard drive is a clip in. You can buy a really cheap hard drive and make the hard drive you have now a slave drive. Then the new drive is the primary. You would then have to reload Windows onto the primary drive. This would give you access to the slave drive to retrieve things from it. But....if you heard a loud sound from the speakers...I can not say for sure that it is the hard drive. If it were the hard drive, it would just fail to come up. But you also said that it is not turning on. So, it will have to be your call as to if you want to buy a new hard drive. Shop around, you can get a off brand hard drive for a fairly good price. [brokentia]
Your right. After reading that she has other computers to be able to do this, it would be better to do this with another computer instead of getting another hard drive. [brokentia]
I have no idea but if when you turned it on you got noise out of the speakers. it doesnt sound like the hard drive. could be the mother board. or something else. you will need to have it checked to be sure what the actual problem is. [mirage108]
If you are getting no power to the computer it sounds like a power supply problem. If the power supply is gone the computer will not start as there is no power to any of the components in the computer. My friend had a similar problem this weekend and I told her it sounded like a power supply problem. She took it to a shop and it was the problem. They replaced it with a second hand power supply and it only cost her 40 dollars. I used to work alot with computers but it has been years. [linda345]
It can have many causes.First as you said it can be your Hard disk.Secondly it can be the RAM and thirdly It can be the Motherboard..So I will suggest you that take out the Hard Disk the check it with any other computer ,next take out th RAM check it out with another computer. If both are working then it is your MotherBoard. [shyam4uall]
Do you do a bunch of the programs people advertise such as ptr's and paid to click programs? If so it's likely you got a virus. [Metallion]
That's pretty bad, although i don't know if it is the hard drive or not. In the future though, you can always upload your pictures to a photo website or something like that instead of taking the time to burn them to a cd. [guitarkidwr]
i cannot give you any tip about it since there is no enough information to know what really is going on with your pc that you have given here. i only hope that it is not that bad as to you can recover all those files of yours you wanna recover. good luck on trouble shooting it. greetings. : ) [moneymind]
Well,I won't be able to tell what problem it is if you don't specify what the problem is.Do you see any blue screen? Are you still able to login to windows? [cooldude8889]
Man I don't know what i would do if my main computer was on the fritz. Right now the laptop is starting to act goofy, but it is just in relation to the power supply connection to the battery. The think keeps on bouncing back and forth between on the battery and on ac power. It is really annony. I hope that you get your PC fixed soon and there is nothing to wrong with it. [medooley]
I don't know what I would do either. [Redzion13]
Your power supply is tost. All you have to do is go out and buy a new power supply. You need to also make sure that you are using a surge protector on your computer. If you shut your computer off right away there is a chance that nothing else was damaged. Good luck to you! [rosey2006]
can u press F8 successively before the OS loads? 9this is for windows OS..if you can, then proceed by selection the "last known good configuration settings that work"..if not then may internet can help you...just a suggestion... [psyd_1]
OOOOOMG don't get me started... I know there are people that can get your pictures off your hard drive for you. Wait a day or two to let the computer rest and then try turning it on again. If it turns on IMMEDIATELY use a flash drive or burn a CD of your pictures.. or upload them to a website you can then access and save from your other computer(s). That is what I did since our main computer was sometimes off/sometimes on. Then we lost it altogether. I've been waiting almost FOUR months for my in-laws computer to come back!! It was broken for about 2 months, sometimes working, sometimes not working. Finally we got them to take it to Circuit City where they had the warranty. We waited 3 weeks and finally received back the computer. Plugged it in and ... STILL BROKEN!! My in-laws lagged it for TWO more weeks to take it back to the store. This time they told us they would have to send it to get it fixed the hard drive. They said they would call us in a few days and let us know. We waited a month my husband kept going to the store every week to check on it and each time someone told him "I don't know I'm not the technician.. I'll have the technician call you." Yeah well he never called. We FINALLY found someone to tell us what was going on.. The computer is STILL sitting on the floor at Circuit City!!! After ONE MONTH !! They said they have "alot of paperwork and are waiting for the BOX to ship it." WHAT????? Then it will take 1 month to send it and fix it and 2 weeks MORE to get it back. So we are looking at February for a computer that broke in October and was given to the store in November. Needless to say I am MAD and tired of sharing MY computer with 5 other people! Well 3 .. but still So MY advice is to post an ad on Craigslist and get a computer professional to come and fix it and get it over with in one day! It will cost $100+ but better than waiting 3 months for the stupid store and company warranty to fix it!! I wish I had done that and next time I will ! If it is a Mac and you live in Los Angeles I know a great technician . . [TasksGirl]
My husband will be able to fix whatever it is. I am not worried about that. he's been able to get it on and off. He believes its the power supply. he was in the midst of trying to back up the photos for me when it shut down again. So lets hope we can at least get the photos off of...then its okay if we wait until after the Holidays to be able to get it fixed up. [Penguinsangel]
its happens to me once with my computer.when i turn it on it make a hard loud sounds like a sirine and it wont on.so i sent it for service and they said the problem is on the power supply.so they have to change the power supply, but the worse part is they have to re-formated my computer.thank got the service guy manage to back up my document 1st so my document and pic are safe.maybe u can talk about this to ur service guy [innechen]
yr computer is pet for u ??? he / she got fever...ha..ha..ha... [kalai1985]
Hi i m vineet i wanna say that in this case there is no problem of hard drive as per me there must be a problem of ram drive or may be any booting problem . So as oer my concern u sholud reinstall windows xp or whatever operating system with a bootable cd so the new copy will lap the old one and ur pictures will remain safe and sound . And the most inportant thing u shoild upload ur photos everytime on google`s Picasa Web Albums Try this it`s Free and the best..... [kumar_vineet91]

i think is much better i'll buy a new one [pizzoli]
please consult a hard ware technician, and please dont think much about it , becaue there is a chance that the problem is another [prashobparassini]
mmm if he do "Bip" and reboot himself maybe is RAM ord damaged Hard Disk sector try to clean up the ram if don't work bring it in some repair shop [lynoxuette]
no it wont be the matter of hard drive.... i think may be the smvs of the computer shud have some problem or check out removing the RAM and insert it again [selva_only4u]
There is many possibility for this. 1...your sound driver crashed 2...attack virus in your pc 3...problem in your sound system 4...problem in your sound card 5...room voltage difficuly 6...may be do some thing manually that can be reversible [sann007m2]
I had the same problem the other day. My brother who know some things about computer, he just unplug the data cable and switch it from the prime slot to the secondary slot on the board. and when I boot it back up its ok already. No more sounds except the the usual log in music. [omega007]
cpu problem this not working computer. [padhukr]
yeah it's a difficult prbs 2 solve but for each and evry probs n tis world ll have atleast a one solution......... better u logon 2 howstuffworks.com.it gives u many ideas 2 solve ur problem k.otherwise there r companies which ll recover the lost data n a small expensive........ [subbusa]
its not your harddrive , its your motherboard which gave sound it may have burnt. hope you dont lost your pics [manishm35]
so that will be very bad if it happens coz i luv to clck pics and save then for life but its realya a common problem computers just act as unpredictable as u cud think of any faliures of harddisk etc etc..bla bla bla...i can keep going and ya 1 thing these virus my god i just hate them ...whole computer has to be formateed and all data gets lost... i mena i do comp engg but i never take computer side coz they are very unpredictable [deepakraaj]
maybe you should check on your speaker maybe they are grounded or you should check your sound card [palakolista]
i guess i may not be a hard disk problem ..but some other reasons..thats why a sound came from speaker..if u doubt that ur hard disk may get trouble..then remove it and attach it to another pc and save ur data ona cd..then check out your pc... [ManastheMatrix]
nothing happened as it didn't turn on at all or it all went fine?....and what kind of sound was it?....like a squeky sound or something....could be several reasons....may be ur hard drive is not plugged in correctly or it might have slipped the connecting with the mother board but i don't think there is a problem with hard drive as when ever sound comes it means u have to open ur CPU and check the HDD connection with the motherboard....i hope thats the case as i didn't get the exact picture of what ever happened.. [pure_soul]
It isnt the harddisk buddy Thats prolly the SMPS or commonly called your PC FAN You will have to get it replaced It doesnt cost much SO dont worry it isnt your harddisk [vipul20044]
From reading your responses, I'm glad it was just the power supply. I'd make sure that your computer is plugged into an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Then you won't have to worry about dirty power or power surges destroying the power supply again. Good luck! [ShadowHawk]
