first, you can change your processor for a quicker one or change your RAM. and if you don't want to change any part of your computer, just cancel the beautiful desktop and screensaver, because they use part of your RAM,and if it's not necessary, don't use program which occupy a lot of RAM. [redlynn]
Try disabling background processes. Upgrading is a myth. Once u believe u will be a prey. Once u r a prey u will never recover from the continuty of this predator. Dont upgrade unless u dont have another choice. [thanzm]

If you need more speed from your computer there are 2 options: Upgrade your computer. This can be done by replacing the processor, increasing the amount of RAM or installing a hard drive with a faster seek time. Streamline your system. Start by removing unnecessary programs from the start up. When your computer boots up it loads programs in the background waiting to be called to use. This takes part of your system resources and slows down your computer. Do not put too many files in a single folder. If you have a vast amount of files such as MP3 or documents that you store, make sub folders inside the main folder to hold them in categories. This way yout computer can scan the files quicker. (To pick 1 folder from 10 then 1 file from 10 is quicker than scanning 100 files to find 1) If you have been running the computer for a long time try defragmenting the hard drive, a badly fragmented drive can slow down your system because the data is scattered across the platters. Of course the ultimate clean up is to reformat the hard drive and reload Windows or whatever operating system you are using to start anew. [Asylum]

I'm doing to uninstall all unnecessary program and have routine maintenance with my pc. [harry_ndhuz]

you can try to defragment your computer like twice a week and remove the temporary files. In this way your harddisk will run faster. Also you can try to clean or boost your ram. Try to download it from google or yahoo search engine by writing the keywords on it. Otherwise, you may need to buy additional RAM like 512MB or 1GB. Sure this one will work. Hope this helps. Try searching this with google. [universalsudhir]

always run cleanup programs during specific period of time...this help in removing mostly the reaming unused files which unnecessarily consumes space n speed.fragmantig is also a gud practice.this helps internally organising ur files sequentially. There are also tweaking softwares which helps in boosting the compute speed. [subhrch]

You can put ur computer on MRF Tyres. Speed will definitely increase [amrita_tejasvi]

You need to add more RAM.. this is the cheapest and easiest way to make a computer faster. Just ask my network engineer hubby casue he is doing this all the time to our computers... always telling me they arent fast enough...lol [mistysjavaspa]

Ive had luck just cleaning the temp files. I always notice a difference in speed after doing this. try it. [tootsie101]

buy more ram if the computer runing slows. [istanto]
Speed will definitely increase [antboy]

The answer to your question can be found easily in this discussion. The easiest, and most effecient, way to increase the speed of your computer is to buy and install RAM (you can have a professional install it for a few bucks too). Try newegg for cheap prices: http://www.newegg.com [TannerSite]

buy the latest or fastest processor avvailable in the market, or you just add some more RAM to your excisting unit. sort of upgrading it. greetings. : ) [moneymind]

You should Format it, or install any "cleaning" programs.. or "registry fixing" programs... and try making alot of spare room on your main drive. [SnIcKasS]

No I can't there is no room to upgrade my computer maybe a new processer but it's all ready fast I have 4 gig of ram and a AMD3400. Soooo it's like gressed baby owl poop now it's very fast! But I do want to build another computer I have two monitors on this machine and I want to build a computer with 6 monitors next then I would only need one computer I have 5 computers up and running now all at the same time! it's like controll central when you walk into my computer room wall to wall monitors now I will have to build a new desk to put them all on. Sometimes life is hard hehehehee [sailoffwithme]

1. change your processor to high speen 2. increase your ram 3. change your harddisk with higher rpm [Chathura]
Thanks for the response. [ngty69]

i can overclock my processor (amd64 3200+) to 2.6Ghz....i can buy more ram..but first thing is to keep it clean! Use Tuneup utilities...they can clean ur disk and ur registry too. They can optimize all settings, to let it go FASTER! [Opteron]
Thanks for the response. [ngty69]

You can change your processor. You can change your RAM. Remove programs on your PC which you no longer need. Often when we delete an item, it is not completely removed from our computer but it is stored in the recycle bin so empty your recycle bin. You should defragment your PC. To do that go to START button, click PROGRAMS, click ACCESSORIES, click SYSTEM TOOLS, click DEFRAGMENTER and click on DEFRAGMENT. Defragment all your drives one by one. You should do a disk clean up. For that go to SYSTEM TOOLS and click DISK CLEAN UP. [supersach]

I took mine and had it cleaned out. It is now a lot faster. [jenn10]

Probably start by dleting all the files you dont use. empty the trash can and deframent for starters [madblogger]

I think u can use the TuneXP for good performance such as booting, etc [jiwakacau]

increase ram , cpu speed etc..................... [hemank]

One of maintenance things that I did was to defrag my hard drive even though Windows said I didn't need to. First, let me explain what fragmented files mean to your computer. When your computer stores a document, it starts to put the document in the first area of free space on your hard drive and then when it runs out of room there, it stores another part of the file on the next space available and so on, until the entire document is stored. One simple Word document may be stored in many different spots. When you access the fragmented document again, it has to go to all the spots on your hard drive, gather the information, put it together and then display it. If you have a lot of fragmented files it takes time for the computer to find the data. I was at 8% fragmentation which was below Windows threshold for a recommendation to defragment but after I ran the program the performance increase was very visible. The reason that I saw such an increase may be that the files that I use regularly may have been one of the few files that were fragmented. It will take a while to run defrag so you might want to leave this task for last (like before bed) and you should free up as much space as possible before defraging, but I list it first because it is so important. To defrag your hard drive with Windows XP, go to: * Start * Programs * Accessories * System Tools * Disk DefragmenterClean Temporary Files To Speed Up Your Computer Windows loves to write files all the time to your hard drive and until you run out of room on your hard drive or ask it to clean it up, it will leave old temporary files there. Windows XP comes with a handy program that cleans them up. To clean up temporary files on your hard drive with Windows XP, go to: * Start * Programs * Accessories * System Tools * Disk Cleanup [rohitssj4]

Speed depends on the accessing pattern of the Operating System. So follow the following steps (For Windows family) 1) Format your system. 2) While partitioning split the Size of disk according to your requirement. For Eg: 1 For OS installation (Root Directory.) (Size must be less than 10 GB otherwise it will slows down the speed) 2 For the data having less size (Say <100 MB) 3 Say for the movies and video songs. 3) Then set the cluster size. According to my Eg: Use as follows. For 1st use 4 KB For 2nd use 8 KB For 3rd use 16 or 32 KB. 4) Now go For formatting. Now about the cluster size: As you could see that the size of a file is shown is in whole number i.e multiples of 4 KB or else. If we change the cluster size for the drives then data filling is done more precisely just adding floor to container. Now scanning will become fast as scanners need to scan less number of clusters. NOTE: Don't add the files of smaller size into the directory of drive having Higher cluster size. Its waste of memory space. For more better performance use some tools like CCLEANER (Freeware) or REGISTRY CLEANER (Shareware) [vijayganesh]
Oh i just forgot about that: Defragment the system regularly (After every 10 to 15 days) as the above person told. Perform VIRUS SCAN. [vijayganesh]

Whichever system or processor you have is king buddy. All u have to do is close or disable the processes running in the background. For this goto Control Panel > Administrative tools > services. Disable the services that u dont use. Disable with xtreme care. Get ready to experiment. Nothin will smoke. U might have to format once or twice or a couple of times but its worth it. Anyways ull get used to formatting once u start it. [thanzm]
