There is no need to do so much. Scanning it takes lots of time. So better you install Norton Antivirus with its regular updates and a good firewall like Zone Alarm. This allows viruses to hardly get installed on your machine.... So its ok even if u scan ur machine 1ce in a week or 2...... [zahir_dk]

I used to scan my computer once a week earlier but now i dont need any scanning as i have a good antivirus installed on my computer and it alerts me as soon as i get any potentially unwanted programs or viruses even the minute ones instantly and dont let them enter into my computer.I use McAfee Virus Scan 10 and it has come out to be a true saver for my computer. I use my home server to scan my network at night when I am asleep, because I have 5 computers on my home network I have to keep it secure and clean, but kids do occasionally download the odd junk that includes spyware/malware, which does get tedious at times, but it has to be done. and with regards to antivirus, I personally use avast as it's free, powerful and uses less resources than norton, plus the fact that the virus database is updated daily :) [kstanley7]

Well I don't scan everyday, but once a week I do the following process:1)Update Ad-Aware SE Personal and do a full system scan (a freeware adware detection and removal program) 2)Update and run Spybot S&D (another freeware adware/spyware removal tool) 3)Run a full system scan with McAfee (I keep it automatically updated) 4)Run HiJack This! (a freeware program that shows all registry entries pertaining to IE and system startup, allowing you to delete entries place there by malware) 5)Run CleanUp (another freeware program which thoroughly cleans out temp internet files, cookies, system temp files, prefetch files, and empties recycle bin) This program is highly useful and can help you keep all the useless crap from gumming up your HDD, saving you space for the things you are going to actually use. I then turn off system restore and run a defrag (all this really does is reorganize your hard drive so your PC can find things a little faster when you call for them) I then turn system restore back on and create a restore point. You'd be really surprised at the amount of stuff that this process will uncover that you never thought was on your PC. Just remember, No single program will ever find and remove everything that is there, a multi-prong approach is best. I also use Mcafee Firewall, and Privacy Service. Aside from a few moments, I have never had any problems keeping my PC healthy. [shoreboy31]

So be smart and scan every night and you won't have problems. People who don't scan every night end up sending things to people they don't want. If you got a good virus scanner like AVAST (FREE) and good firewall like Sunbelt Kerio then you should be good to scan a full scan every other week, but as for Adware and Spyware, I find myself using Adaware... about every other day... Well for one, I never ever use Internet Explorer unless I absolutely have to. It's not secure at all. I noticed a huge difference in my computer once I quit using it. I now use Netscape(which has a good spyware scan in it) and FireFox. I also use AVG to scan my computer. I don't mess with Norton because it doesn't work well at all, at least not for me. yes u r right. for ensuring a deep scanning ur system follow this:1. get rid of all scrap files and folders. burn music files onto a CD and get rid of those aswell 2. defragment ur system once every fortnightly. 3. scan ur computer manually every fortnightly. set ur scan software to automatric updating and auto acanning every day. now, see the difference. i use quick heal anitivirus software and zonelarm for blocking programs i dont want.
