Whatever version of Windows, Linux or Apple Mac that you are using, the wallpaper, icons and so on are created as default when the system is installed.
Do you accept this or personalise your computer?
If so, to what length do you go?

responses and comments:
I always personalize everything. I put shortcuts to the desktop for the programs I use most, I put shortcuts on the quick launch bar, I put my son's drawings as wallpaper etc [isasice]
The programs I use every day I have on the quick launch bar and only a few shortcuts on my desktop. As I use the computers both for work and personal use, I have a lot of files and programs on it and it saves me a lot of time to keep the shortcuts on the desctop instead of having to go through my documents and all that. [isasice]
I personalise my desktop. I have a picture of my son and daughter travelling by ferry in Sydney Harbour, Australia. [juliedee]
Most people tend to have a personal picture for their desktop wallpaper. [Asylum]
i always make things my own basically from set up i change everything around lol and start deleteing things i dont want taking up space ... [sassybratky]
I do exactly the same, I would not consider it to be my computer if everything had not been chosen by me. [Asylum]
yes, I change the background and take off all icons so its just the desktop picture. [Jemmifire]
I always remove shortcuts that programs wish to place on the desktop, but I have never considered removing ALL icons from it. I use the My Documents, Recycle Bin, My Computer and so forth as standard. I suppose that I could easily create a desktop toolbar instead, although I am used to the layout that I have. [Asylum]
I personalized mine. I use windows xp, and I have a program called windowsblinds. I've made my desktop look like it's a MAC:) [skeemy]
Surely Windowblinds will slow down the computer, it is a very resource intensive program. [Asylum]
Yes I like my desktop in my own personal way.. [nithinnarayanan]
I have always personalize mine. Right now i have a picture of my kids when it gets closer to Christmass Ill prob do a picture with them putting up last years tree. [rracers89]
Very original, I also modify the appearance for Christmas with a festive background and a few festive icons. I even change my email signature for a couple of weeks to show Santa sending greetings. [Asylum]
i use destop , windos n linux r my os ,windos -sp3 n linex redhat all r my default i don't change any thing [praveenkumar06]
The best desktop from the defaults is possibly the Linux KDE background. [Asylum]
Yes sir..I m in this hobby of personlaising my desk top when ver I have some spare time..in addition each day I use a different slogan on my desk top..to lift the soul... [ishavasyam]
A different slogan each, I am sure that I would find it difficult to think of one. [Asylum]
Yes, with my own art work. [margieanneart]
Yes, I have Windows XP and I change things around the way I want them and the color I want them. I sometime paint pictures in the Paint program and use as wallpaper or one of my many photos of places I have been. [caribe]
I did not realise that anyone used Paint anymore. I remember trying the program years ago and I was useless with it. [Asylum]
I have Johnny Cash giving the bird on mine [wathanjim]
personalising ur thing give u comfort and luxury. but i do it upto certain limit, cos u have to work on the computer. [dodododo3]
i customize every details in my windows(booting screen, wallpaper, windows log-on, icons, etc) using styleXP, i also tweak and modify them for better performance.. [macubx]
It seems that we both like going overboard, I usually try to personalise everything. I have even had my own toolbars lined down the screen. [Asylum]
For every person it needs of personality to express his/her guesture .Similarly Computer also needs its own personality to make it full of gravity. That is why desktop should be personalized. [mp1234]
I have both Win 98 and WIN XP. I personalize both with photographs of my son and change it whenever I get a better picture of him. Every time I clean up the desktop my husband will see to it that it becomes full again with all his downloads.(though I have opened a folder for his downloads he does not use it. He is a lecturer and downloads a lot of study material). Even my 6 yr old son knows where he has to save his downloads.(games) [MoonWalker]
I am insane most of the days. It is so frustrating. Anyway, can't do anything about it. Can I? [MoonWalker]
im using WINDOWS XP.... and i very freequently personalize it............ [puri_puneet2003]
I use PX and whenever i have a clean out i usually change things i tire of the same thing all the time i like change. When i get a new computer it is always the first thing i do otherwise it doesn't feel like it's mine [rosebug23]
This is precisely my feeling, I does not seem like my computer unless it has been personalised. [Asylum]
yes I personalize a lot my desktop, changing wallpapers, placing shortcuts, and creating notes on my desktop where I save my weblinks I like or I write notes to remind things I've to do next days. [jamz82]
It is a long while since I used notes on the desktop, I had almost forgotten about the practice. [Asylum]
http://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=799579 a pictures says more than thousand words, doesn't it? The windows style is called Windows Recall, the Wallpaper is Erotic Vision found on DeviantArt.com The HUD on the left and right is Serious Samurize with self build panels. [ThunderCrash]
yes i do personalise them... unless i do it i wont feel that the computer i am using is actually mine! i use yahoo widgets and customize them! then i use style XP(the female version) and i really decorate my screen! [nishanity]
i personalise by computer my adding wallpapers but now new thig i do is to add wallpapers as background to my every folder [akshar_kataria87]
My screen saver is a slide show of all my photos. Sometimes when I leave the computer and come back there are my grandkids smiling at me or my Dad or my pets. Sometimes I get so involved I just sit and watch. Doesn't matter how often I see the same photos. I have all my game shortcuts on my desktop (cos they are cute or pretty or colourful) and I vary my background with different pictures i find. [MsTickle]
This is always a good choice for a screenseaver. Most of us have photographs that we will always keep, but we do not tend to look at them as often as we should. The appearance of a photograph at random is an excellent way to keep the memories fresh. [Asylum]
I usually personalize mine with a picture of my son. I do have one computer that I just have standars background, because I do not use it very often. I change my background often on the desktop and of course I have my little personal icons all over the desk top. [wmg2006]
I have always liked using personal icons rather than the standard installed ones. [Asylum]
some times i accept that but mainly i personalize mu computer as the newwallpapers and new login logout tones attract me.and i keep my pc always update [akshar_kataria87]
of course i do..... in a continuously upgrading world one can never lack behind to upgrade ones passion which is computer for me...i upgrade it with the latest version of softwares that i get at hand....there can be no extent of upgrading yes of course keeping in mind that u cannot put it to risk......... [mindblowing]
I don't personalize my desktop but use quick lunch toolbar and add a natural as desk top background [ammar55555]
natural picture!sorry for this [ammar55555]
Yes. I try to personilize everything: wallpaper, shortcuts, quick launch bar (with my favourite programs). I also discoverd how to remove the arrow from shortcus, using Tweak UI, a very nice windows utility. [glf1980]
You can remove the shortcut arrow manually. Simply run the registry editor and delete the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfil\IsShortcut entry. This is what TweakUI does to remove the arrow. [Asylum]
I think most of users personalize their desktop ;-) [neezhom_almaniri]
Oh yes I have windows wallpapper download from microsoft and put my pictures up on my desk top still working on learing how to make icons and when I do will change them too. Thanks for sharing. I love your avatar. Have a great evening [bwrattybaby]
Making icons is not an easy task, so I usually content myself with downloading a few. [Asylum]
Oh, I love to personlize my desktop. I am not really computer savvy so apart from just downloading pictures I really like and arranging icons in certain ways, I don't know what other things can be done to it. In fact, I change my desktop picture every few weeks, or sometimes within a matter of days if I come across a really nice pic that I love. [hopeful28]
A personally chosen desktop background is important because it a large area that you see often. I usually go overboard and change the icons, default sounds and sort the program menu into personalised groups. This way I can feel that it is my computer. [Asylum]
I am using a Spring theme that was already on my computer. I change quite often as I get bored with the same old thing. Sometime I use Google or Yahoo search to find new ones! There are thousands! [Bee1955]
This is the right time for a spring theme, or maybe an Easter theme for the next week or so. [Asylum]
My son and I have a bit of fun going on with his , he is 27 on the site as (rossdcurran) he keeps putting women in swimsuits on then I go on and put family photographs in their place , he goes back and does the same again , we both laugh about it though xx [weemam]
That sounds like the kind of silly game that I would play. [Asylum]
