I think I would buy them a desktop. I have five kids and they all get on the computer. I think having them being able to sit in one spot to work on the computer is better than giving them a computer they can fight over. Imagine if one wanted to use the computer and they start playing tug of war with the laptop? My husband's niece just had her screen crack when her brother's got it and accidently dropped the laptop. The worse thing that has happened to ours is having our 4 yr. old daughter spill soda on the keyboard which my husband replaced already. [andalond]
i think children has to opt for Desktop because LAPTOPS are to be handed with care. But desktop can used as we like. more over laptops can not be used for long time but desktop can be used for long time [saichandtalluri]
I would suggest a desktop purely because it is cheaper relative to a laptop of the same specifications (2ghz processor, 4 gb ram, etc.). Desktops are also sturdier than laptops, so in case of a knockdown or accident chances are the cpu will be perfectly safe. The mouse and keyboard are also external, which is nice because if a laptop keyboard is damaged, then problems can arise (though you could always get an external keyboard or mouse. Laptops are really geared towards personal use while desktops are geared towards public use. Children in my opinion can be a little reckless on a machine so it's important that you get a computer that will suit their needs but not exceed them (for example, they will probably not need a computer with the latest and greatest hardware) but they also need a machine that will be reliable. Laptops have a tendency to heat up because of poor air circulation. Desktops on the other hand have better fans and air circulation so the unit stays cooler (i've seen people burn their hands on their laptop, a serious hazard if you are not careful). Hope this helps. I prefer desktop because we should prefer children using the computer at front of us so we have to prefer desktop [nareshreddy68]
Thanks for the response. [silvermoney]
for me, i still go for the desktop because its the basic, they can learn and apply the arrange of finger typing sequences most specially with the numbers located at the rigth side of the keyboard. one more thing, desktop is the pc that is available at school.if you introduce laptop to them at home, they will find it difficult operating desktop later on at school. laptops are for grown ups.
